Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, today announced that its Smart Factory in Lexington, Kentucky has earned the distinction of 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) Advanced Lighthouse by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The Lexington site is the third Schneider Electric factory to receive this honor for success in adopting 4IR technologies at scale with demonstrated benefits to date. Schneider Electric’s factory in Batam, Indonesia site was selected in 2019 and the site in Le Vaudreuil, France was selected in 2018. Two additional sites, Showcase-Monterrey, Mexico and Wuhan, China, have also been designated as Developing Lighthouse facilities.

Team Groon from Universidad Nacional de Colombia has been named as the winning team of Schneider Go Green 2020. Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, held the digital finals of its global student competition on September 10th,2020. The winners, Angie Redondo and Jorge Polo presented their Sustainable Fishing project benefitting the Bojayá community, living on the Atrato River near Colombia’s Pacific coast. Bojayá’s economy relies on fishing and agriculture and today, 22 percent of local fish production is wasted due to insufficient electrical refrigeration. Team Groon’s project offers an innovative Access to Energy solution and sustainable business model for the fisherman in Bojayá, based on a reliable, solar and biomass-powered cold chain solution to stock and help distribute local produce.

In line with the Company’s vision to further reinforce its presence in India, Schneider Electric – the global leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, today shared, following the earlier announcement in 2018, the success of completion of the transaction combining Larsen & Toubro’s Electrical & Automation business and Schneider Electric India’s Low Voltage and Industrial Automation Product business. The combined business – Schneider Electric India Private Limited (“SEIPL”), is owned 65% by Schneider Electric, and global investment company Temasek owns the remaining stake. SEIPL also announced the appointment of Anil Chaudhry – the current Zone President & Managing Director, of Schneider Electric India – as the CEO SEIPL and Zone President India. Students are invited to submit their innovative and bold ideas on energy management and automation for a smarter and more sustainable future from around the globe. The company announced the top eight teams on August 10, 2020. They will present their ideas and compete against each other during the finals on September 10th, 2020. Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, Egypt’s national utility provider, has selected Schneider Electric to convert the country’s national electric distribution network into a future-ready smart grid. The agreement, which was signed July 12th, includes the establishment of 4 control centers that will monitor and optimize the electricity network, as well as over 12,000 smart ring main units that will be installed throughout the national network. The project worth 4.6 Billion Egyptian Pounds, has a timeline of 18 months and will result in the creation of the Middle East’s first-ever country-wide smart grid that will be able to meet the needs of the country’s growing population as well as its industrial development.

Faced with the compelling need for more respirators on its national territory, the French government has asked, on March 22, a group of French industrial companies led by Air Liquide to study the possibility of increasing the production of respirators so as to provide 10,000 respirators in 50 days, between the beginning of April and mid-May. In response, Air Liquide, Groupe PSA, Schneider Electric and Valeo have set up a Task Force composed of about 30 purchasing and industrialization experts in order to define an action plan to increase the production of Air Liquide Medical Systems respirators, which are already referenced by a great number of hospitals in France and abroad. To meet this industrial challenge, the exceptional contribution of 100 partner companies will also be sought so as to provide the 300 essential components that are necessary for the fabrication of these medical systems.

On 9 January 2020, Schneider Electric, and Microsoft, hosted six start-ups selected for the joint program AI Factory for Green Energy, at a Demo Day held at Station F in Paris (France). To accelerate the transformation of the energy sector in Europe through artificial intelligence (AI), Schneider Electric and Microsoft launched a call for projects in July 2019 from start-ups working on improving energy consumption predictions and use through learning, energy optimisation, and database services for buildings. In September, a panel of employees from Schneider Electric, Microsoft and other program partners (Inria – French National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology; Sigfox; Elaia; Energize Venture and France Digitale) selected the successful start-ups from the 40 applications received from seven European countries.

At COP25, Schneider Electric reaffirmed its ambition to be a role model in the fight against climate change, by delivering services & solutions that allow its customers to reduce more CO2emissions than those induced by its activity and by seriously decarbonizing itself.This is reflected by the commitments made during Climate Week as part of the “Business Ambition for 1.5°C -Our Only Future”. The Group shared its plans for: (1) engaging with suppliers towards a net-zero supply chain by 2050 (2)achieving net-zero operational emissions and reduce scope 3 emissions by 35% by 2030 (vs 2017) as part of its validated 1.5°C SBT target (3) being carbon neutral in its operations by offsetting remaining emissions no later than 2025 (4) reaching by 2025 -5 years in advance - its COP21 goal of carbon neutrality in its expanded ecosystem, by delivering more CO2savings to its customers than its carbon footprint.

In order to address challenges brought about by new technologies, better serve its customers, and improve operational and energy efficiency,Schneider Electric has deployedits EcoStruxure solutions atthe site – one of its largest European distribution centers. Transformation of the Evreux distribution centeris a key part of thecompany’s Tailored Sustainable Connected(TSC)4.0 supply chain digitization strategy, which aims to improve the quality of logistics operations and responsiveness in order topersonalize customer service and increase the efficiency of its logistics and warehousing operations. The Evreux Smart Distribution Centeris one of the largest in Europe and covers around 463,000 square feet. Operating 24 hours, five days a week,the Normandy site dispatches 17,000 order lines a day to destinations across Europe.

Schneider Electric UK, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, has launched its ‘Rethink Energy’ initiative. A programme aimed at changing business, consumer and government attitudes to energy waste and help combat climate change. Whilst other forms of waste such as plastics, fast fashion and food are highly visible, energy is frequently overlooked. A Schneider Electric commissioned study of 2,000 UK adults and over 600 UK businesses revealed that just 10% of consumers want to do more to curb their current energy use, while 74% believe they already do enough. In the same report, 68% of business leaders reported their organisations wasted energy, particularly in the form of inefficient building and office space. Under half (43%) of company chiefs also shared their organisation had not implemented any measures aimed at tackling these inefficiencies in 2018. Schneider Electric’s full report will be released later this summer.
